Maximilian, president of the company Luisa works for, hires detective Nicol\u00e1s Tramel to find her. It&#8217;s not the first disappearance. Shortly before, another appraiser\u2014a colleague of Luisa&#8217;s and a friend of Tramel&#8217;s\u2014also vanished when sent to value the contents of Valdemar. The detective travels to the scene and embarks on a journey into the past, accompanied by the haughty Dr. Cervi\u00e1, president of the Valdemar Foundation, who fills him in on the case and recounts the tragedy of L\u00e1zaro and Leonor Valdemar, the couple who lived in the legendary house around 1880.
