Its splendid western fa\u00e7ade stands out, considered one of the most beautiful of the Spanish Romanesque. It was commissioned by King Alfonso VIII at the end of the 12th century, an authentic representation of the Bible in stone, in order to bring the Christian religion closer to a population, mostly illiterate.","localizacion_rutas":"The monumental western fa\u00e7ade of the <strong>Church of Santo Domingo <\/strong>served as the setting for the funeral of Henry IV in <em>Chimes at Midnight<\/em> by Orson Welles, in a plane very similar to <em>The Castilian, <\/em>whose artistic director worked with Welles on the film.\n\nThis Spanish Romanesque jewel was built at the end of the 12th century and presents a structure of two registers of paired blind arches that flank its entrance opening, configured with semicircular archivolts that embrace a sculptural tympanum.
