Its main function was not war, but to serve as a place of recreation for the Castilian royalty and nobility, who found abundant hunting in the beautiful valleys and mountains surrounding it. In the 16th century, the keep was raised and a large artillery cube was built. After that, the castle was transformed into a porticoed Renaissance palace, according to Castilian custom.
