Together with those built in La Pica, Aldealpozo, Castellanos del Campo and Noviercas, it belonged to a defensive network that ran along the Christian-Muslim border. Today they form part of what is known as the Route of the Towers. It was part of a defensive network that ran along the Christian-Muslim border.<br><br>The tower has its own legend, the <em>Legend of the Ghost,<\/em> a novel by the 19th century writer Manuel Ibo Alfaro. According to the legend, two families lived here, one cattle rancher and the other farmer, who were at odds over the ownership of the tower. However, two of their children -Manuel and Adela- fell in love but were discovered and betrayed to their respective parents, cutting the romance short. Manuel hired Aunt Aved\u00edcula to intercede for them with the priest, who finally convinced the families to celebrate the marriage. Meanwhile, L\u00e1zaro, Aved\u00edcula's grandson, returned to the village and fell in love with Adela. Together with his grandmother, he hatches a plan to cancel the wedding, causing a ghost to emerge from the tower every night to frighten the town. Manuel decides to go out armed to meet the ghost, but is killed by the spectre, actually L\u00e1zaro in disguise who, before being arrested by the courts, poisoned the water and forced the people to leave the town.<br><br>The series <em>El Cid <\/em>allowed the roofing of some annex structures and the construction of a temporary cardboard forge that completes the setting and adds evocative nooks.
