It is part of a hybrid architecture that characterized the decades of transition between medieval and modern. It is considered one of the best examples of Spanish Flemish Gothic.","localizacion_rutas":"The arrival of Orson Welles in Valladolid at the end of March 1954 generated a lot of excitement. The filmmaker went to the city to film the scene <em> of Mr. Arkadin's masked ball, with 200 extras. <\/em>There he chose the courtyard, the cloister and the staircase of the Colegio de San Gregorio, now the National Museum of Sculpture, to make the spectator believe that it was the interior of the Alc\u00e1zar of Segovia, the main location of the film.<br><br>Years later, in 1961, Welles asked an operator from NO-DO (Spanish Newsreel) to record a series of shots of the National Museum of Sculpture in Valladolid to include in the series and film about the ingenious nobleman Don Quijote.  \n\nIn 1960, Jos\u00e9 Val del Omar filmed the Colegio de San Gregorio for his film <em>Fuego en Castilla. <\/em>Filming lasted three years and involved the collaboration of Vicente Escudero, a dancer from Valladolid, whose approach to dance was influenced by Berruguete's work. Thus, the sculptures of Alonso Berruguete and the courtyard of the Colegio de San Gregorio served as subjects for Val del Omar's stark experimentation with light and sound. \n\nThe College of San Gregorio is one of the finest architectural examples from the era of the Catholic Monarchs. The symbolism and ornamentation of its fa\u00e7ade and the elegant proportions of its courtyard are particularly noteworthy. However, it also played a significant role as an educational institution, serving as a spiritual and political breeding ground in Renaissance and Baroque Spain. As a center for theological studies, it trained theologians, mystics, jurists, and inquisitors such as Bartolom\u00e9 de las Casas, Bartolom\u00e9 Carranza, Luis de Granada, Melchor Cano, and Francisco de Vitoria, who went on to found universities and bishoprics in the Americas, advise the monarchs, and define Spain's position at the Council of Trent. \n\nThe College of San Gregorio is part of the hybrid architecture that characterized those decades of transition between two worlds, the medieval and the modern.
