In a small provincial city, Antonio Fernández (Cassen), editor of a local newspaper, discovers in the foreign press that a bone from the hand of Don Nuño Pérez de Gormaz, known as Don Nuño el Batallador, the greatest hero of local history, is in the possession of a French nobleman. To complete his mortal remains, which rest in a monument that the city has dedicated to him, both the neighbors and the authorities and the living forces abandon their usual tasks to recover what they consider a symbol of their past and tradition.
