Julio Caro Baroja, in his ora “El Carnaval” states that “of all the festivals in Spain that have been related to the Roman Saturnalia, the most popular is the Obispillo festival. In the city of Burgos, the singing children or “Pueri Cantores” of the Cathedral Escolanía have been celebrating the traditional Obispillo festival on December 28 (The Holy Innocents). That day the ritual of the investiture of the Obispillo is celebrated and, after the ceremony, the Obispillo leaves the Cathedral with his entourage and all the members of the Escolanía to go to the City Hall.
