In the year 1350, Pedro I, born in 1334, succeeded his father Alfonso XI on the throne of Castilla y León, only to die just 19 years later, murdered by his brother Enrique de Trastámara. Pedro I will be the first king to swear the Basque charters before the Guernika tree. With it, Castilla achieved hegemony of the wool trade to the detriment of Flanders.
