Museo Patio Herreriano
Architecture and heritage
Located on the former grounds of San Benito el Real, whose construction began in the 14th century, the Museum houses the Contemporary Art Collection, one of the most important collections of 20th-century Spain. The cloister was designed by the late 16th-century architect Juan de Ribero Rada, following the Herrerian models that had already been established in the city with the project for the Cathedral of the Assumption in Valladolid, and also influenced by the Italian architect Palladio. Highlights within this space include the Chapel of the Counts of Fuensaldaña and the Gil de Hontañon Hall, from the latter of which part of a mural painting has been recovered.
