In 1808, in Madrid, Lieutenant Torrealta was named standard bearer of his regiment. Meanwhile, his companions, Luis Daoíz and Pedro Velarde, plot a conspiracy against the Napoleonic invader but Torrealta refuses to actively participate in it, since he is engaged to Renata, daughter of a French general. On May 2, the uprising breaks out and the first battles against the French troops take place. His companions die heroically.
