Luisa Llorente, an expert in appraising antique properties, disappears after visiting the mysterious Victorian mansion Valdemar to inventory its contents. Maximilian, president of the company Luisa works for, hires detective Nicolás Tramel to find her. It’s not the first disappearance. Shortly before, another appraiser—a colleague of Luisa’s and a friend of Tramel’s—also vanished when sent to value the contents of Valdemar. The detective travels to the scene and embarks on a journey into the past, accompanied by the haughty Dr. Cerviá, president of the Valdemar Foundation, who fills him in on the case and recounts the tragedy of Lázaro and Leonor Valdemar, the couple who lived in the legendary house around 1880.
