Madrid, late nineteenth century. The city has grown at a breakneck pace in recent decades, and thousands of young women have come to the capital in search of a way to support their families. But the road is fraught with danger, and many have fallen into nets of exploitation and white slavery. María Ana Allsopp, a young woman from high society, is deeply moved by the plight of these women forced to sell their bodies on the streets. Together with Father Francisco de Asís Méndez, she founded a new congregation: a house whose doors remain open day and night, a safe refuge for so many abandoned women. However, threats from abroad soon loom over this determined group of women whose “madness” is to save and restore the dignity of all those who have lost it.
