In a miserable Castilian village, the farmer Juan Castilla, his wife Acacia, a son and a blind grandfather live poorly. Due to a dispute with the local chief, Juan ends up in jail. Then his wife leaves the village on which he seems to have a curse. When, three years later, Juan finds her with another man in her tavern, he forces her to return home and keep up appearances until her grandfather’s death.
