Archbishop Fonseca College and Residence

Architecture and heritage

Historic heritage, Hotel, School

The Archbishop Fonseca College is a monument declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 1931. It was founded by the Archbishop of Toledo Don Alonso de Fonseca and its construction began in 1519. Like the rest of the university Colleges of Residence, it was originally a charitable scholarship institution. In this way, those without financial resources could access university studies. It later lost this character to become an instrument of training for State bureaucracies and high ecclesiastical positions. The building has a restaurant, cafeteria and a hearth open to residents and the university community, as well as to the general public.
