Casa Luelmo

Architecture and heritage

Historic heritage, Palaces

Formerly the home of the poet José María Luelmo, a member of the Royal Academy of Arts of the Immaculate Conception, this 1907 palatial house is now one of the headquarters of the Santa María la Real Foundation for Historical Heritage. Among those who frequented it were Miguel Delibes, Francisco Pino, Vicente Aleixandre, Jorge Guillén, and even Federico García Lorca.
Known as "Villa Paulita," the building, designed by the architect Ortiz de Urbina, was commissioned by Rufo Luelmo. Its floor plan follows the shape of a swastika, with the main staircase at its center. This design is asymmetrical in one of its arms, the southwest one, and in the placement of the tower. The house is located in Alameda Park, surrounded by trees and gardens.
