El Barco de Ávila is located on the border of the provinces of Salamanca, Cáceres and Ávila, to the southwest of the latter, being the natural head of the region formed by the Tormes and Aravalle Valleys. Being located in the vicinity of the Sierra de Gredos, its climate is continental alpine, with cold winters and mild summers. The Tormes bathes this land of El Barco, over its waters a bridge from the Middle Ages that leads to the Hermitage of Christ. Between the river and the mountain is the Castle of Valdecorneja, from the 15th century, when the manor of the same name became part of the House of Alba.
