Melque de Cercos is in the Segovian countryside, about 35 km northwest of the capital Segovia. It was famous for the production of artisanal tiles that can be seen on many of the buildings in the municipality, built with a technique consisting of overlapping courses of pebble and slate and sometimes also red brick or tile.
