Monte Santiago Natural Monument

Landscape and nature

Forest, Mountain, Nature park, Valley, Waterfall

The Monte Santiago Natural Monument is located in the northeastern corner of the province of Burgos, right on its border with the Basque Country. Its landscape is dominated by a lush and well-preserved beech forest, which extends to the edge of a rocky amphitheater, formed by the peaks of Sierra Salvada. In one of its most isolated and deep recesses is the spectacular Salto del Nervión, with its more than 300 meters of height and its peculiar ponytail shape. In addition, next to the waterfall are the remains of an ancient wolf cave of prehistoric origin. In this space, one can enjoy the spectacular flight of numerous birds of prey that nest in the Nervión Canyon.
