Plaza Mayor of Salamanca
The Plaza Mayor of Valladolid is one of the largest in Spain. Closed and with arcades, it has been used as a market and as the scene of popular celebrations throughout the history of Valladolid. In 1561, after a fire that destroyed practically the entire city, Philip II undertook to rebuild his hometown and gave it the first regular main square in Spain. Its structure has later been copied in other cities such as Madrid or Salamanca.
