12th century, the entire Europe is immersed in the Crusades to recover the Holy Land. Godfrey convinces his son to accompany him on his mission. After the death of his father, Balian inherits his lands and his knighthood in Jerusalem, a city where Christians, Muslims and Jews have managed to coexist peacefully during the truce between the Second and Third Crusades.
