Considered the first Gothic cathedral in Spain, it stands on the remains of a primitive building dedicated to El Salvador. The most powerful of the temples in Ávila is this cathedral, begun in the 12th century, in the final Romanesque, and continued in the incipient Gothic of that early period. It is declared a National Monument and World Heritage Site.
