The Consul of Sodom is a journey through the life of Jaime Gil de Biedma (1929-1990), one of the most influential poets of the second half of the 20th century. His life is the story of a contradiction: on the one hand, he belongs to the upper bourgeoisie and is an executive of a major multinational company; on the other, he lives his life as a poet and homosexual who rebels against his family and historical environment. Sex, love, literature, and political struggle are the constants of a life that traverses a period of rebellion, violence, and discovery. It is also a portrait of Barcelona in the 1960s, featuring emblematic figures of progressive Catalan culture and society, known as la Gauche Divine. The film is directed by Sigfrid Monleón and stars Jordi Mollá (Jaime Gil de Biedma), Alex Brendemühl (Juan Marsé), Josep Linuesa (Carlos Barral), Vicky Peña (Jaime’s mother) and newcomer Bimba Bosé (Bel).
