Based on the novel of the same title by Miguel Delibes. Rafael, a young socialist deputy, is informed of the death of his friend, Víctor Velasco. In the cemetery he meets Laly, an old companion. Both remember the personality of their missing friend and the story they shared with him during the 1977 election campaign. In one of the towns in the mountains of Burgos, they met Mr. Cayo, an old man attached to the land, who was for Víctor like a kind of revulsive: it was the first time he heard the voice of popular wisdom.
