The New Cathedral, attached to the Old Cathedral, started construction in 1513, and was inaugurated in August 1733. The Catholic Monarchs were involved in the initial promotion, at the request of the Cathedral Chapter, who, along with successive bishops, always acted as the main promoter. It began to be built in the late Gothic style and, although it used some other later styles, it retains a stylistic unity in this art, imposed and preferred by the Chapter.
