Villalonso Castle

Architecture and heritage

Castle, Historic heritage

The castle consisted of two enclosures and a wide moat that can still be seen, although quite blocked up. There are hardly any remains of the exterior enclosure and the interior, partially preserved, has a square plan with cubes in the corners and a keep, equally square, and in the center of one of the sides, crowned by a beautiful continuous machicolation. During the Middle Ages, Villalonso was a place shared by several lords such as the Benavides family, with the Order of Alcántara standing out as the main owner. This castle is a typical and notable example of the 15th century.
