During the Civil War (1936-1939), a group of Spanish children, mostly Basque, was sent to Belgium, far from the bombings and horrors of war. These children tried to overcome their difficulties by supporting each other and adapting to their new country and their adoptive parents. But their greatest desire and hope was to return to Spain.
